you can make a homemade pencil the same way major pencil manufactures do! its a simple process so follow along and try at home. first, you get some lead [you can buy lead refills for mechanical pencils anywhere; wal-mart, kroger, ect. any weight will do.], you will also need some acorns depending on how many pencils you want. dig yourself a hole in your lawn / gardening area about 8-10 inches deep. drop your acorn into the hole and cover with and inch to an inch and a half of scott's garden soil or top soil. now take your lead and plant it vertically in the ground right above your acorn. frequently water and try to keep your pencil garden in direct sunlight [this is vital to the growth of your pencils]. also a good idea is to use a guide a.e. another pencil for yours to grow to. if you followed the directions correctly within 8-10 weeks you should have some solid pencil trees growing. let them grow to the size you want, its all personal preference. you may then dig up your pencils, cut the roots and shave it down to the size preferred. i hope this was helpful to you, as i found it interesting to learn about.
